Takasago International's competences include the development of aroma ingredients and the creation of fragrance and flavor products. Our field of expertise also consists in closely examining the effect of compounds originally present in food and fragrance products on odor, taste and on the final products itself.
These studies lead to extend our capabilities to the development of functional materials which finds applications from the development of the latest deodorants with the screening of specialty ingredients in essential oils like deodorizing or antibacterial agents, until the development of cooling and warming agents and more generally to any researches related to the skin sensation with the Sensates® chemicals.


Originated from vegetables with high contents in polyphenols, DEOATAK® deodorizing properties are known to be generated by the enzymatic activity of the natural polyphenol oxidase found in plants.
Unlike other general deodorizing materials, which are poorly active on certain families of malodor ingredients, DEOATAK® shows a very good efficiency in deodorizing even sulfur compounds. For instance, as 20mg of natural polyphenol found in most deodorants is totally inefficient in deodorizing 200ppm of sulfur compounds like the methyl-mercaptan, it was confirmed that 20mg of DEOATAK® could in 10 minutes completely eliminate the presence of this malodor compound.
Furthermore, from the effects of (20mg) DEOATAK® enzymatic activations, only half of the time required by the same quantity of natural polyphenol is necessary to deodorize the malodor generated even by 100ppm of ammonia.

Antibacterial materials

Hinokitiol is a component consisting of cypress oil from Taiwan and Aomori Prefecture in Japan. However, the molecule of Hinokitiol has come to denote an antibacterial activity at low concentrations, and exhibits a broad spectrum activity from bacteria in general to fungi. In addition, the famous antibacterial agent, butyl paraben intestinal bacteria Escherichia coli and the Aspergillus niger cause of the black mold disease on certain fruits and vegetables and common contaminant of foods, has a respective Minimum growth Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 4000µg/mL and 200µg/mL. However, Hinokitiol exhibited and MIC of 40µg/mL on both species. Its excellent antibacterial property is widely used in the dentistry fields, as preservative and antiseptic, with a particular focus on hair care and oral care products.


Amongst the compounds delivering a cooling sensation, comes the menthol, used for many years. As well, compounds exhibiting a hot sensation like capsaicin have been used as agents promoting the warming effect on the skin or stimulating the blood circulation.
Takasago International develops such Cooling and warming agents well known as Sensates®.


Ceramides, widely present in the mammalian organism are known to be involved in various functions. Particularly, ceramides are commonly believed to protect the cell surface against harmful environmental factors by forming an intercellular lipid layer, mechanically stable and chemically resistant.
Widely applied in cosmetics as skin moisturizer and for tissue reparation, natural sources permitting to supply ceramides are however very limited. Restrictions based on the cost, or technically on its purity are a real obstacle. Therefore, the idea of synthesizing ceramides has been the subject of many researches. However use of conventional chemistry only lead to mixtures of ceramides stereoisomers.
Takasago International, beneficiating of its strong knowhow in synthesizing aroma ingredients and especially thanks to our cutting-edge asymmetric isomerization technologies could produce the natural form of ceramides at stable price. Furthermore, this native form of ceramides has been shown to be superior in the barrier functionality and repairing properties of the skin in comparison to the effects of stereoisomers mixtures.
