Pulling out all the stops to achieve conformity with local environmental regulations

Takasago's Malaysian plant, which produces liquid coffee extract and instant coffee, is taking measures to protect the environment in readiness for ISO 14001 certification, while steadily implementing a small-scale improvement program.

The plant's production capacity has increased 150% since the addition of a second processing line in 2009. Of particular significance is the installation of a fully automated roasting machine, which allows production of a wide range of flavors through various roast settings, and makes it possible to achieve emission controls in conformity with Malaysian environmental standards. Operation commenced after adequate product testing, trial runs, and fine-tuning, and quality coffee beans are now produced in large quantities. And the new boilers burn far less fuel than before, reducing CO2 emissions.

The new four-path boiler, already up and running, is used on both production lines.
