Meticulous measures for reducing greenhouse gases and conserving energy
During construction of the new company building on the site of the plant in Germany, environmental considerations were factored in right from the design stage. The new laboratory built in 2009 has been equipped with ventilation incorporating a heat-recovery system, opening the way to major gains in energy conservation.
The ventilators are fitted with exhaust filters to reduce CO2 emissions. These filters are changed regularly, and soiling is automatically monitored; if dirt builds up before it is time for a regular filter change, an alarm sounds and the filter is changed immediately.
Installation of ventilators is now complete in all structures built since 1999. An energy-efficient ventilation system using recycled air is now available for cooling facilities as well.
Taking all possible steps to prevent soil and water pollution
Emergency shutters and waterproof floor coating prevent leakage of hazardous substances.
The company implements safety measures of the highest standards in the quest to prevent soil and water pollution or minimize its effects. To that end it mobilizes a full range of technologies.
All production or storage areas where hazardous substances are used or stored are equipped with filtration sumps. The floors are covered with a special corrosionresistant waterproof coating, which stops corrosive substances from leaching into the soil. Just in case a hazardous liquid does seep out, doors and gates are fitted with hand-operated emergency shutters, which can be shut to prevent contamination of other areas. In the unlikely event that a small amount of a hazardous substance is spilt, absorbent material is available in each area to wipe it up. Finally, water piping is equipped with cutoffs to prevent any leaked toxic agents from flowing into the public sewers or the public sewage treatment plant.
These cutoffs also function in the event of a fire, preventing the water and foam used to extinguish the fire from penetrating groundwater and soil.

Garbage meticulously sorted
There is a garbage collection area on the factory site. All garbage generated at the plant is sorted and gathered neatly into bins for disposal by a specialized disposal firm. The final recycling rate is over 80%. Also of vital importance are efforts to avoid producing garbage in the first place.
Equipment for washing containers installed
Until now the task of washing containers inevitably consumed large amounts of water. With the new system, though, the cleaning process is divided into three stages, and the water used for rinsing at the final stage is reused for the initial wash of the next container.
Pursuing CSR through active community participation
As a responsible corporate citizen, Takasago Europe G.m.b.H fully backs up employees who participate in community emergency response programs like the volunteer fire brigade. Employees are exempted from duty when taking part in fire fighting drills or rescue activities. They put the expertise so gained to good use on the job through their role in formulating risk avoidance and first aid plans.
Besides taking steps to reduce its environmental footprint, the company thus also strives hard to be part of the community.
